1. This post is addressed to makers who want to get more chances to do more successful making. If you’re a manager, this article is great to help you create a great environment for the makers on your team!

Designers think a lot about how to get into the groove and build something awesome. But the same is true of everyone who does creative work!

This article really clarifies a lot for me in the realm of creating a good working environment.

My biggest question for everyone out there: How can you design your day (and execute on that design) such that:

    1) Collaboration can happen inside and outside of the team as needed, and 2) You can get to #Winning! as often as possible?

    And:

How can I help you make it happen?

  2. While Facebook’s rise took many by surprise, its success was little surprise to the hundreds of researchers who study social interactions in neuroscience labs across the country. Over the last decade, these neuroscientists have uncovered some unexpected quirks of the brain, that all link to one big idea: we are far more socially oriented, at the level of brain structure and systems, than we account for in daily life.

Don’t forget to scroll down to look at the comments. There is a great list of best practices for facebook usage that anyone can benefit from.

  3. I want to spend time at a Buddhist temple so much.

I like this girl’s gumption. If she reads my reblog, I hope she notices I added a link:

Gampo Abbey In-House Retreats are very doable for anyone, and approachable to Westerners!

I want to emerse myself in it.

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted anything more.

I can’t wait to get off to college and get a (hopefully) decent job.

When that happens, I’m definitely starting a “temple stay” jar.

I think there’s something messed up about the startup culture in the USA. The belief is that you have to work 6-7 days a week and spend all your mental cycles on your company. Nothing but pledging your soul to your startup yields success, right?

    Not in my experience.

  6. This article highlights one of the causes of our culture appearing to dissolve into a series of meaningless sound bytes…

“Over the past 15 years, I’ve studied technologies of mobile connection and talked to hundreds of people of all ages and circumstances about their plugged-in lives. I’ve learned that the little devices most of us carry around are so powerful that they change not only what we do, but also who we are.”
